Notes on Other States- Especially Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida,
etc.
The only buttons available are the flat style modern buttons available from
Waterbury Button Co. These are not authentic for Civil War useage, so we will
not sell them. Some other sutler types do have them.
The buttons from the above states are rarely found by relic hunters, which says
that they were not widely used during the CW. Most of the Western Theater buttons
found in the state are usually the Block I button, either solid cast brass or
stamped. US Eagle buttons were also used on some CS jackets.
This note also applies to other flat style modern buttons being sold elsewhere
for other states which include Missouri, Georgia, etc. These are not correct
for the CW period, as all official buttons (With exception of North and South
Carolina) of the time period were the three piece "Muffin Button".
Solid Cast brass and pewter buttons do not necessarily follow this, as
examples do exist from Virginia and Texas (possibly others) that can be either
somewhat domed or relatively flat in appearance. Remember that these are solid
cast buttons and not stamped brass.
